The questions every brand asks us

This is a role, not an ID. Every question you have turns on who holds it.

Your representative is in the room three to five times in your first month, two or three times in the second, and then rarely, sometimes not for months. The same four questions come up on almost every call with a foreign brand, and each one has a different answer depending on who you chose. The dial below shows where your choice lands.

“What happens if they leave, get sick, or retire?”It turns on the tie. A representative with a real stake in your company and one doing you a favor leave for different reasons and at different rates, and the dial is set once. You decide whether this question ever comes up on the day you choose.

“Can I just pay someone a couple of thousand and move on?”It turns on month two. The person is needed during setup, again if verification comes back with questions, and again at every re-verification for the life of the shop. Firms that supply a representative exist, and we have reviewed them. They sit at one end of the dial for a reason.

“Do they have to be an employee or an owner?”It turns on durability, not title. Four kinds of ties keep a person in this role, and they don’t hold equally. Which one fits your company depends on your structure, your U.S. plans, and who you already know.

“Can an agency just handle it?”It turns on timing. An agency joins a shop after it is live. The representative is named before that, and whoever holds that seat has something the agency doesn’t. Where the seat sits decides who can leave whom.

The dial

Five ways to fill the role. Very different risks if the relationship does not last.

One person is named on your shop, and you set the dial once, before anyone applies. The five positions on the dial above, in plain words.

Verified Expansion’s evaluation framework. Not a TikTok Shop risk rating or an approval prediction. Actual risk depends on the person, their prior connections, their documents, and the relationship.

1

Your own executive or officer   Lower risk

Employed by your U.S. company. A real stake in the outcome. Answers in year two.

2

A trusted friend or family member, paid in writing   Lower risk

The role explained before the yes. A number that holds.

3

A screened outsider   The checks decide

Can work. The checks decide it: history, documents, availability.

4

The same person, as an unpaid favor   Higher risk

The yes arrives the same day. The obligation lands at re-verification, when the window is days.

5

A rented ID on multiple shops   Highest risk

Accounts link. The person stays for the vendor’s reasons, not yours.

This dial is only half the answer.

The full version shows what to check at each position, what the agreement says, what fails re-verification, and the seven questions to ask before anyone says yes. It arrives in one email.

The question you are already asking

Can you change your representative later? Yes. You will not like what it takes.

TikTok’s route to a different person is to transfer the shop to another verified business. Here is the road, from TikTok’s own documentation.

Need a different U.S. representative later? The five steps of TikTok’s shop transfer process: a new business verified from scratch, sales stop, money locked, approvals reset, one try per quarter.

Get the fit right the first time.

Not every brand needs the same representative, and the full dial is how you find yours. The representative is stage one of five. Everything after that depends on this person.

Where you are

The full dial reads differently for each.

I already have someone in mind.

The public dial tells you where they land. The full version tells you what to check before you ask, and most owners find at least one thing they had not considered.

I need help identifying candidates.

Two positions on the dial are lower risk, and one of them is a person you bring into a real role rather than someone you already know. The full dial shows which routes lead there, and the Routing Guide behind it scores each one.

I’m considering a third-party representative service.

Position five, usually. The full dial shows what to ask any provider before their person goes on your record, and what the arrangement costs you if it does not last.

I’ve already started, or had a problem with my application.

A second attempt is read against the first. The dial is not the first thing you need; a diagnosis is. Tell us where you are, and we’ll send a different next email.

Would you rather find out where your choice lands now, or after they have handed over their ID?

We know what to ask about each and where each one breaks. That research built the dial and the thirteen-route guide behind it.

They helped me open my US TikTok shop as a non-US resident living outside the US; everything works, and the sales are rolling in. Riley also did a great job with the email support! Recommend!
